Mistral

Mistral yacht, Benetti, LivornoThis strange boat is the “Mistral”, a tug converted in yacht built by the Benetti shipyard in 1962. On the background you can see the 52 meters tall “Fanale dei Pisani”.Benetti yacjts, Darsena Nuova, LivornoThe converted tug is quite an odd product for a boat builder world famous for its wonderful luxury yachts.

I like tugs a lot, but I've never seen a conversion before - very interesting. That's a lot of yatching power in the 2nd shot.

It took a minute to appreciate using a tug as a yacht but it's growing on me. I'm retired 20 years US Navy and feel more like a tug guy than a yacht guy for sure.

This tug was named "Carmelo Noli",it operated in Savona port from 1962 to abt 1998. originally it had a reversible engine, later a pitch propeller with Kort Nozzle was added.
The boat was at this point lefthanded, and it was quite difficult to handle, for it had no bow thruster.Electrical power was 220V DC. i wonder how they solved the problem. A completely new electric plant? Why they kept the old engine? You know that the hull was fully riveted, and any repair work is trremendously difficult?
The only valuable thing is that it's very seaworthy, even in heavy seas the roll and pitch is moderate.Conversion inevitably worsened the once pure lines

Grazie per le informazioni, penso di aggiungerle al post o magari farne un altro. Nel caso sarebbe possibile avere una foto prima della conversione? La pubblicherei volentieri, ovviamente citando la fonte.
